Wine & Roses Festival

The Wine & Roses Festival is brought to the Brazos Valley by the local Winery Resort, Messina Hof. This community event is to create a space in which resident and out-of-town wine lover's can come together to celebrate what the Messina Hof wine brand has to offer. This is the biggest, annual event that Messina Hof hosts, and it doubles as a public relations event.

I learned the importance of constant communication and contingency planning. At my orientation with the general coordinator, she gave us an information packet that was very thurough. However, although she noted that it was destined to rain on the day-of, every year, the information did not include any contingency plans for the locations if there was bad weather. This resulted in the scheduled volunteers running in the rain to multiple wrong locations, because of the last minute changes. Also, the busses were scheduled to drop off everyone past the main building and parking lot, even in the rain. Both the guest and I had to run the 50 ft to find shelter when the main gate was still open and available.

Job Duties:

• Monitor entrance of attendee groups.

• Collect and verify tickets upon entry.

• Assist in set-up, tear-down, and flipping of the room for each group.
